Food Preservation with Just Food

Want to enjoy seasonal fruits and vegetables year-round? In gardens, grocery stores and farmers’ markets, the local harvest is in! Learn how to make delicious and nutritious SALSA with fresh ingredients and save it for the winter.

Just Food is working towards ensuring that food security exists in Ottawa. Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs, and when all foods are produced as locally as possible, and their production and distribution are environmentally, socially and economically just.

"Ooops, I shrunk it" - Intro to Felting with Jennifer Stacy Kirkbride

Come and explore the exciting craft of felting. Try your hand at wet, needle and washing machine felting. No skill required, just a love of fibre!

A veteran traveller and crafter, Stacy Kirkbride recently launched her own business, "The Barefoot Crafter". Combining her passions for both fibre-crafting and the outdoors, Stacy offers retreats/workshops that allow women to explore their creative potential and undertake new outdoor adventure skills in a supportive environment. Stacy thinks constantly about two things: wool and travel.

Cheap Thrills: Do it Yourself Sex Toys for Power Play with Venus Envy!

You may never see your house, the hardware store or grocery store the same way again. Kinky sex doesn't have to be expensive — this workshop will show you how to transform everyday mundane items into sex toys.

Shelley Taylor is the founder of Venus Envy, an education and women oriented sex shop and bookstore (Halifax and Ottawa). She has been facilitating workshops about sex and relationships for the past 8 years and loves presenting at Ladyfest!

Ball-Z Chicks: Soccer Skills and Drills

Come try your foot at some soccer. An introductory workshop to the skills that will help you score!

Leave Your Mark! – Printmaking with Andrea Emery
1:00PM – 3:00PM, Rm. 102
*Note: pre-register at www.ladyfestottawa.com, $5 surcharge for materials. Using a soft carving block and cutting tool, learn how to create a relief print with unique characteristics. Use your print to stamp a personal touch onto a note card or paper or even fabric and take it home to use and try out. Learn a little about the history of printmaking too.

Andrea is originally from Montreal where she studied Illustration and Design and majored in Art History. She currently teaches Typography in Algonquin College's Graphic Design School, designs typefaces, paints & exhibits work. Her love of letters is infectious and invariably passed on to her students.

Power Up! - Activism 101 with Anjali Helferty

Want to be an activist but not sure where to start? Discover quick and effective actions you can take to unleash your inner activist, and where to go from there.

Anjali Helferty is the Sierra Youth Coalition's National Coordinator for Sustainable Campuses. She was profiled in the 2007 'Green Issue' of Vanity Fair along with other young people running the Campus Climate Challenge in the US and Canada, and most recently featured in Alternatives Journal. She is particularly interested in the integration of social issues and the environment.

Hot Safer Sex for Everyone with Venus Envy!

What's sexy and safe? Almost everything! Join us in a discussion about hot ways to play, sexy communication skills, and other ways of broadening your sexual horizons. Discussion will include information about sexually transmitted infections and how to protect yourself and your partners.

Farts and Craps with Agitate
3:00PM – 4:00PM, Rm. 102
Reclaim and redraw heteronormative bathroom signs for "men," "women," "handicap," and "family" (and perhaps even post them on public washrooms around Ottawa). Make your own children's story book that subverts racism, sexism, heteronormativity, and classism.

Agitate is a queer, Ottawa-based organization for Aboriginal, mixed-race and women of colour.

Bgirling with Bgirl Bounce
4:00PM - 5:30PM, Rm. 102
Breakdancing with Bgirl Bounce! This workshop will focus on the fundamentals of breaking: basic top rock, footwork and freeze. Please wear comfortable clothing and running shoes.

Jennifer Casimir, aka bgirl bounce, has traveled extensively, performing professionally, battling and giving workshops throughout Canada, the U.S and Europe. She presently works as a dancer and performer for the following companies: Solid State (Montreal), Flamenco Confusion (Spain), and Full Circle (NY). One of 30 dancers chosen world wide for the intensive training at the Red Bull Beat Riders 2007 camp in Texas, she has trained intensively in NYC for over a year under the pioneers of breaking and continues to practice on a daily basis to refine her skills.
