Workshops on are a first come first serve basis, no registration required
Workshop materials will be provided, just bring yourself
Pay what you can...
FINISHING YOUR NOVEL (10am-12pm)
Learn to battle writer’s block, character stubbornness and the evil middle of the book slump. After this workshop, you’ll walk away with tricks on how to stick to deadlines and get to those final coveted words: "The End." Bring your favourite writing instrument(s) with you to participate in novel unclogging exercises.
WARNING: This workshop will require you to kill your internal editor for at least a short while. (Don’t worry - internal editors are easy to resurrect.)
Marie Bilodeau is a local writer and storyteller. Her first fantasy novel, Princess of Light, was released in March 2009 and is already her publisher’s #1 bestseller. She has three other novels scheduled to be released by the end of 2010, most of which are already written (Most of = not all. And that’s why she has an array of weapons against writer’s block.)
Flowering Foods: Edibles in Garden Design (10am-12pm)
Incorporating food into your garden does not have to mean resigning yourself to looking at a functional jungle. Using design principals intended for ornamental gardens, along with choosing a majority of edibles that are perennial and self-sustaining, you can create a beautiful and tasty garden with curb appeal.
Telsing Andrews did not learn to love gardening when asked to pluck rocks from the heavy B.C. soil but later through her stomach and her first herb garden. Ever since, she's learning that she will probably never get to taste all the edible plants the world offers but that won't stop her from trying. Oh and she likes growing them too.

An interactive workshop followed by a question-and-answer with Evan Hazenberg, Service Coordinator at the University of Ottawa Pride Centre and founder of Trans Guys Ottawa.

Always wanted to make your own custom prints? Learn basic relief printing using low-cost and accessible materials such as lino, rubber stamps and vegetable prints. Materials will be provided- all you need to bring are your design ideas!

About Ladyfest Ottawa
Ladyfest Ottawa (LFO) is a non-profit, primarily women-organized music and arts festival that is open to everyone. Founded in 2002, LFO remains a volunteer-driven organization that showcases women's artistic expression and shares ideas through music, performance, film and video, exhibitions, panels and workshops.
Ladyfest Ottawa is an inclusive, feminist organization. We feel that providing a venue for women artists counters the obstacles and discrimination that women often face, including sexism, homophobia and racism. We also work to address these issues in our workshops, along with encouraging a D.I.Y. (do-it-yourself), hands-on approach to skill-sharing.
Tarts N’ Crafts (formerly the Not Your Grandma’s Craftsale) is a twice-yearly event in support of the crafting community, which also acts as a fundraiser for Ladyfest’s year-round events and productions.

It’s a new year and we need a fresh new look!
Are you a designer with an interest in DIY culture and feminism? Are you creative, daring and forward-thinking? Are you flexible, detail-oriented, and able to work under tight deadlines as part of a large team? You might be a perfect fit!
Ladyfest Ottawa (LFO) is looking for an Ottawa-based designer to create a new logo for our organization. The new logo will be used on all promotional materials (e.g. festival poster and schedule, handbills, newspaper and Web banner ads, and merchandise), and will be the first step in re-branding the festival.
LFO Is:
An inclusive feminist music and arts festival that is open to everyone. We feel that providing a venue for women artists helps to counter the obstacles and discrimination that women often face, including sexism, homophobia and racism. Now in our eighth year, LFO 2009 remains a volunteer-driven organisation that both showcases women's artistic expression and shares ideas through music, performance, film & video, exhibitions, panels and workshops. For more information about LFO, visit www.ladyfestottawa.com.
Elements of the NEW LOGO:
The letters, “LFO”
If you are interested, please send us mock-ups for our new logo, a brief blurb about yourself, why your design best represents LFO and a sample of your work at ladyfestottawa@gmail.com, with "NEW LOGO DESIGN" in the subject line.
The successful candidate will receive $200 and a $50 prize pack of locally-made crafts and other fun items, as well as a chance to be our lead designer for LFO 2009!
Preference will be given to female designers. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to design all promotional material for the 2009 festival.
Ladyfest Ottawa is committed to the personal and cultural diversity of its volunteers and encourages applications from all qualified candidates.
